![]() No need to place a ser# on a bbl if it has no number on a frame to match it up too. The number under the bbl code stamping is a matching ser# to what would have been the frame ser# at the time the gun was made and proofed at the factory. I supposed more than a few frames & parts left the back door of the Illion Works in lunch bags and under coats.Ī heavy refinish on the frame may have removed it too. Model 10, Model 29, 17, 31, 11,all their repeating shotguns were always serial numbered. It should be ser#'d, that's the way they were mfg'd. Maybe the bottom of the frame just ahead of the carrier. Can Remington provide the manufacturing date based on the serial number Remington offers a serial number lookup service on their website, allowing you to discover the manufacturing year of your Model 870 Wingmaster. The frame ser# on the early guns may be on the front edge flat of the frame like the early Ithaca 37's, Or perhaps the lower canted edge next to the trigger group. None of which are to be confused with the BBl code in looking up a mfg date. Several different Suffix letters to denote grades, magnum frame, ect were also used. That till about '74 or so then I loose track what prefix it was changed to. Instance of actual barrel date code-EJ-stamped on Remington model 700 variant made in October 1989. Very nice wood and excellent overall condition. The barrel date code says B o 8 which I assume means Jan/77, this does not make sense being that this rifle was not. Push the magazine spring, plug and retainer into the maga zine tube approximately one (1) inch. What year was my Remington 870 made Novemby Robert Carlson. Align the detent slot on the magazine spring retainer with the detents on the top and bottom of the magazine tube. Its related to a sportsman 48 but doesnt look anything like it please help. The numbers are: m570055 on the reciever. Ser#'s on 870/Wingmasters made before the '68GCA have no prefix letter,just a number. The 68GCA brought them all on board in the requirement. I know that if you go to the Remington web site you can look plug in your model 700 Serial number and find out the date it was made. Remington always ser#'d the Wingmaster/870.Įven though pre 1968 Fed Law didn't req mfg'rs to ser# shotguns (or 22rf cal long guns),many mfg'rs chose to do so anyway. Would like to know where I can find the dates of manufacture, by serial number if possible, of Remington 870 Wingmaster shotguns.
